Most of the finished basements we complete at Custom On-Site feel like another level of the home, rather than a basement. In Northern Colorado, where homeowners are looking to maximize both livable space and long-term value, basement finishes are one of the most practical and impactful home upgrades you can make.
We can significantly open up the space with various window and door options. We can also use the same finishes as you’d see on a main level (or that perhaps you already have on your home’s main level) but at a fraction of the cost.
Because the structure of the home is already in place, finishing a basement allows homeowners to focus primarily on layout, light, comfort, and functionality. With thoughtful design and proper construction, a basement can feel just as bright and welcoming as any other level of your home.
Create A Whole New Living Space
Though we can take on the more simple basement projects, one of our most popular approaches to basement remodeling involves creating entirely new living and recreational spaces.
Popular options for basement transformations include family rooms/living rooms, the addition of a bathroom, unique bar spaces, and a bedroom or two. We have recently completed several of these types of projects throughout Northern Colorado. In some cases, these remodels have completely changed how a family uses their home, providing them with all new areas to enjoy.
A well-designed basement finish can serve as a gathering place for entertaining, a private retreat for guests, or even a multi-purpose area that evolves as your family’s needs change. The possibilities are flexible and highly customizable.
Opening Up The Space
One of the biggest misconceptions about basements is that they have to feel dark or enclosed. In reality, we can open it up with windows and create taller ceilings where structural conditions allow.
To achieve a basement space that’s more connected to the outside, we add egress windows, enlarge existing windows, or install double windows with larger window wells. These changes allow more natural light into the space. In some projects, we have even created autonomous access to the basement with stairs and an exterior door, allowing the space to function as separate living quarters if desired and permitted.
When the basement is to remain fully connected to the main levels, improving natural light and access helps it to feel brighter, more inviting, and fully integrated, a space where you want to spend your time.
Same Finishes, Lower Cost
One of the major advantages to finishing a basement is that we can use the same finishes as you’d see on a main level, but at a much lower price. Our building & design team often matches flooring, trim, cabinetry, and fixtures to the main levels, creating continuity and making the basement feel intentional rather than secondary.
Because walls, roof, and foundation are already in place when finishing a basement, the investment can be a fraction of the cost of building out a main level addition. You are enhancing square footage that already exists, which makes basement finishes one of the most efficient ways to expand livable space in Northern Colorado homes.
